Some days on the road are filled with action while others are mostly about getting from A to B – that’s how things must necessarily be if your goal is to cycle around the world. Well, now my goal more like getting back to Denmark before the winter but still, today was mostly about getting as many kilometers as possible in the bag.

Not that the surroundings were not nice enough. The city of Münster markets itself as Germany’s bicycle capital, and yes, there was a fair amount of bikes on the streets. On the other hand, nothing mind blowing if you just come from The Netherlands.

I continue to be a big fan of the Bäckerei’s with their breakfast, coffee, cakes, and WiFi. Often they are even located on the central square of the town – a nice spot for a bit of people watching. What is not to love?

Germany is a country of polite and friendly people – when you go to the supermarket you are always greeted with a smile and a Gutentag. At the same time the culture is certainly also more reserved compared to further down south. I usually cycle through towns and cities on my loaded bike without drawing much (if any) attention. In fact I like the privacy, but compared to Africa, the last part of the trip back to Denmark will be a more anonymous ride.

I had located a hostel in Westfalica that seemed like a good place to spend the night but it already got dark before I reached town. I could easily have continued a bit longer, but decided that it was just easier (and cheaper) to put up my tent in a field.

Tomorrow I will reach my friend Carsten’s place. Carsten owns a hotel – a pretty good friend to have when you are a cycling through Europe on a budget 🙂
