Compared to the fancy and touristic southern France along the Mediterranean, this part of the country is pretty much the opposite; quiet, anonymous, and as non-touristic as it gets. As always I like to see both sides of a country. Nothing wrong with the scenery, though.
After crossing Le Doubts river I was making my way towards the village of Beaumotte on some very small roads. In this village my sister had spent a year as a volunteer on the Centre de Beaumotte, a house where local youth with different kind of problems and international volunteers live under the same roof.
As I was living across the border in Switzerland at the time, I went over to visit several times and even took part in one of the summer camps. Now I was invited back to say hello to the friendly people still working there.
It was great to catch up with Paola and Olga who I hadn’t seen for 10 years. We agreed that we all look exactly the same 🙂 I was kind of sad that I’m in such a hurry to get back to Denmark before winter – if not I would have loved to spend another couple of days at the center. Today, however, the road was calling again and after a nice lunch I was back on the bike.
In Saint-Loup I was looking for a cheap guest house but only found an expensive hotels. Oh well, the 3rd wild camping night in a row… If you travel through Europe like this, wild camping and buying food from the cheap supermarkets, it can be a very cheap continent.
Not a fan of the cold, while cycling? 🙂 Jin rides in freezing cold ice and snow. 🙂
Hehe, in general I much prefer heat over cold… but, one day it would be cool to do a winter ride somewhere. Stay tuned 🙂
