When I arrived at my Windoek hostel I had met fellow Africa cyclist Oliver from Switzerland. Soon thereafter Javier from Spain (www.coloradoontheroad.com) also rolled into the campsite. Javi is cycling around the world, and since he had done the Americas north to south I figured we would have been close to each other at some point. Sure enough it turned out that we had both been celebrating New Year 2014/15 in Cali, Colombia. Small world!
As if three cyclists wasn’t enough, I got an email from Danish adventurer Martin Adserballe (www.adserballe.com) asking if I knew a hostel in Windhoek since he would be landing in a couple of days. There was obviously many cycling stories to be exchanged!
Apart from all the cycling talk I also got a chance to see a more local side of Windhoek as I was invited to join Fenni and her friends at a local restaurant. There was even worms on the menu! I didn’t try this time, but next time I get the chance I promise I will 🙂 Thanks for the invitation Fenni!
Socially it was a great time in Windhoek – visa wise not so much. I though I was on track to get a visa to Angola (one of the hardest countries in the world to get a visa for) but after a week things didn’t look too bright. There are always other options, but things obviously take a long time around here…
Together with Olivier I did some research about other possible routes towards West Africa, and we came to the conclusion that it would be possible to go through Zambia and Congo.
I guess this will be my new plan…
I was wondering if you were going to cross paths with Javier. 🙂 I guess Windhoek is a bit of a cycling crossroads.
