Doug drove me to the small ferry and as the morning haze was lifting I was on my way back to mainland Maine. Maine is a big state with some 500 km of cycling up towards Lubec, the Easternmost point in the US.
In Portland they are into cycling, and I was leaving the city on a nice bike path. Out on the country side I was back on the US 1 highway that I have been following since Florida. Only a few days left until Canada now!
Due the ferry ride it was already 10:30 am before I managed to leave Portland. Hence, the rest of the cycling day was “strictly business” as I needed to get to my friend Paul K8PO’s place before dark.
I was once again welcomed with open arms to Paul and Jackie’s beautiful lakefront house up here in the hills of Maine. I’m getting further away from civilization once again – in fact so far that my cell phone rarely works anymore. Without the GPS on my phone I had to resort to the old strategy of asking people for directions while trying to find Paul’s house. Luckily that strategy still works.
Jackie is from Canada and had some good stories to tell from this part of the world that I’m just about to enter. And, Paul has been building a nice world class radio contest station out here on the country side, so we went to have a look.
Thank you for such a nice welcome. I’m once again blown away by the hospitality around here!
Wow. What a setup Paul has!
Maine is a state that’s never failing to impress me!
