I woke up to the sound of the river and the song of birds in my tent – very happy to be camping again. This is true freedom, riding your bike into a beautiful mountain region, sleep in your tent, and then continue the next morning.
And a mountain region it certainly is. The good thing is that the air is cool and fresh up here at 1500 m. The challenge is that there are no easy cruising – it’s either up or down all the time. I had planned for a long cycling day, but after 69 km the legs had no more power in them. Time to look for a hotel room in Coban then.
It also happened to be my birthday today. This year the celebrations took more of a virtual form on social media and Skype. Thanks for all the wonderful wishes! The good thing about being so blessed to have friends from all over the world is that the birthday wishes keep coming for 48 hours 🙂
In the physical world it was more like business as usual – no big party this year. Though, I did go out to enjoy the typical Kaq’ik dish from this part of Guatemala.
Happy Birthday Thomas!! I hope this coming year is even better than the last.
Maybe no cruising, but the scenery certainly makes up for it! And who could say no to the first few photos? That is freedom!
Thanks a lot Tyler! My blog is a bit behind at the moment, so my birthday was really back in June. Greetings from Cancun, Mexico!
Yes Stephen. I have been missing the camping part, but it has not been so safe in central America. When I get to the States in just a few days I will surely be doing a lot more camping. Greetings from Cancun!
Happy recent Birthday! My husband and I were in that part of Guatemala about a year ago, and we really enjoyed it, too.
Happy birthday Thomas!!!
