This part of the Panamerican highway is supposed to be safer than where I rode yesterday. I could then relax a bit more and didn’t have to look back over my shoulder the whole day.
On the other hand the cycling today was not the most interesting. Just another day on the flat, sandy, and dusty Panameriana towards the border with Ecuador. I think some people would get really bored and annoyed cycling here, but I don’t mind too much. Especially not considering that the tail wind I have been enjoying for a long time was still there, and I could make my 100 km of daily progress in just a bit over 5 hours.
I also think that all the breathtaking landscapes I have cycled through before and will be cycling through again are only so amazing because they are broken up by some more monotonous stretches of road.
If the time on the road itself could not excite me so much today, there are always other things that can. It has usually something to do with the interesting local people I meet, or if nothing else, then a nice lunch break with good food and a few pages of a book on my Kindle.
And so I arrived in Chiclayo with 105 km more in the bag and a little closer to the border with Ecuador.
I noticed the comments blank today and I just want to tell you that I’ve read every entry of your blog and I check back every day for the next update. I would bet stretches like these on the Panameriana can become rather lonely and I just want to remind you that there’s people like me checking every day and continuing to be inspired by you! Keep up the great work, on and off the bike 🙂
