My amateur radio friends in Argentina had invited me to the annual CQWW CW contest from the LT1F super station near Rosario. On Friday afternoon I met with Fabian LU1AEE and Diego LU8ADX and we began the 3 hour drive towards the station. By the way, I have cycled 15000 km out of a total of 20000 km on the left side of the road so it feels really strange to be driving on the right side again.
Arriving at the antenna field – this is going to be a fun weekend!
Lucas LU1FAM enjoying the big pile ups.
I quickly learned that the friendship and the Argentinian BBQ, the asado, was just as important as the radio contest. Carlos LU1FKR, the owner of the station, was doing some true magic at the BBQ (and I was just posing for a fake photo 🙂
The guys had somehow found a Danish flag that flapped beautifully next to the Argentinian one. After the weeend everyone signed the flag – a special souvenir for the weekend. According to tradition it is bad luck if you recieve gift here, so I gave Carlos 2 pesos and in return he “sold” me a beautiful local knife. The guys said I might need it one day in Colombia 🙂
Apart from food, the friendship, and the good times, we also managed to make 5000 contacts and claim the first place in South America for the contest. In any way a perfect welcome to the new continent for me.
Muchas gracias amigos!
