I was spending most of the day in front of the computer trying to get a sense of the Australian job market. With my 1 year Working Holiday Visa the idea is to look for a job at some point. I’m still not sure if I prefer to cycle further south right away or stay for a while in Darwin.
The first, and some might say quite strong argument to look for a job is the fact that the expedition funds are running very low. On the other hand the climate in northern Australia is perfect for cycling now. If I wait until the wet season it would be… more wet. I applied for a couple of jobs just to see what happens.
In the afternoon I took the bus into Darwin to meet with the local Couchsurfers.
The sunset from the city beach is beautiful. With the rest of Australia being rather cold at the moment, Northern Territory is certainly the place to be. I’m not the only one to come to this conclusion. The city center is packed with backpackers and you almost hear as much German and French in the streets as English.
Will miss your posts if you stay in Darwin to work! I’ve been enjoying your journey and great photo’s. Good luck with you’re job search!
Thanks a lot Poul! There will be more stories and pictures coming – sooner or later 🙂 You are planning to cycle through Africa?
I’m planning to cycle through Angola and some of Namibia. I’ll be visiting some of battlefields from my days as a conscript in 1987. Nothing as ambitious as your trip though!
