It had been a cold night in the tent. I need to get some warmer socks! Luckily the day started with a climb up the Giribaldi pass – the legs are still fresh and what better way to warm up your body than climbing a mountain on a bicycle. The ascent was a bit cold though.
The views around here are beautiful, reminding me of the Faroe Islands.
I bit further down the road I met Claire, a tough lady from Wales who had cycled from Bariloche. There really is a lot of cyclists around here! Claire again mentioned the magic bakery in Tolhuin where it is possible to stay. That would be the destination for the day.
In Tolhuin it started to rain just as I entered the city. I went to the now famous bakery and met Emilio the owner. He immediately invited me to stay and showed me the cyclists room. I also got a number of empanadas. What a welcome to the best bakery in the world!
As I had arrived rather early I went for a walk around the pueblo and saw their annual chain saw competition. The atmosphere was great and the guy who won the competition was treated as a local hero.
In the cyclist “temple” at the bakery everyone had written a message on the wall. I felt like being a part of a big family of cyclists.
