After two weeks of cycling, relaxing, and meeting friends along the Arabian Sea, today would be there day to head inland and start the journey towards Calcutta.
As I was having breakfast together with Fred at a restaurant, the guy at the table next to us asked if we were also cyclists. The guy turned out to be Chris Roach from Australia, also known as the Cycle Strongman. Chris is on a 8 year cycling expedition all around the world and currently enjoying a break in Southern India before heading to Pakistan. A trip that would make Fred’s and mine look like a walk in the park.
So there we were, 3 world cyclists from 3 different continents having breakfast at the same restaurant in India. Life sometimes feels very random.
After saying goodbye to Fred and Chris, I headed for the mountains. I knew it was going to be a hard day as I would be climbing up to the central plateau of India. On the way the climb I passed the 5000 km part.
On the climb itself I was feeling great and was able to keep a nice speed. As I reached the plateau at 500 m altitude I was even thinking I could have easily climbed another 500 m. However, a few hours later in the hotel room I realized how hard the climb had actually been. Suddenly just standing up and walking to the bathroom seemed like a major accomplishment. Oh well, with a solid sleep I hope to be ready for more cycling tomorrow.
What a meeting!
